When we started our journey as parents, we were bombarded with a ton of advice and opinions from other parents and even practicing nurses, with no real scientific basis for anything. I'll give you an example. In the hospital where our child was born, a nurse came and yelled at us for letting our child suck on a pacifier. We were traumatized. Fortunately, our pediatrician stopped by and answered all our questions and educated us about "Nipple Confusion". If we had this book earlier, I would have been much more calm when the uninformed nurse wreaked havoc.

This book does a prefect job of picking some of those most common "opinions" (like "nipple confusion") and analyzes them with hard data and science.

I'm really happy Emily wrote this book. If you believe in science and data, this book will make your childcare journey much more pleasant."

• I love everything about it, so practical and useful with expert references. It's a wonderful antidote to the anxious shame based focus so much parenting advice seems to employ in America. Easily readable, yet scientific enough for this academic mother to feel enriched by it. My only criticisms are that I think the book Precious Little Sleep should have been mentioned in the sleep area, and perhaps she should have taken a moment to address the Rock N' Play issues currently all over the news when mentioning that product.
• One of the most overwhelming things as a parent is making decisions about what will be best for your child and your family. I’ve definitely had my preferences about sleep training, baby feeding, and discipline, but I think every mom doubts herself sometimes and wonders if she’s really doing things the “right” way or if she’s completely screwing up her child.
  
  This is why we needed Emily Oster’s book. Her pregnancy book Expecting Better was like a guidebook for me during pregnancy, and although I had to wait 2 years for this parenting book, it was definitely worth the wait. Oster simply outlines the research behind many of the big parenting decisions, including how and what to feed our children, vaccinations, discipline, education, screen time and potty training. Just like in Expecting Better, she doesn’t give advice but simply outlines the research, allowing the reader to use that information to guide their own decision making.
  
  As a mom, I’ve loved reading about which decisions don’t really seem to matter much in the long run, and which I should take a little more seriously. This book helps me feel like an informed parent, which allows me to feel more confident as a mother.
  
  But my favorite part of this book is that in almost every chapter, Oster doesn’t just discuss how parenting decisions affect the children, but the parents as well. Almost all parenting advice that you read only talks about the children, but what about us? We are also impacted by our parenting choices, and we should consider our own well- being when making any decisions about our family. I hope that this sparks a new trend in parenting advice, where parents are allowed to think about themselves also.

• I pre-ordered this book after a friend gave me a copy of Expecting Better, and I was not disappointed. This is a valuable resource for parents, covering many of the big issues like breastfeeding, cosleeping, etc. There are a number of valuable charts to bookmark for future reference (like on weight loss after birth, and language development to pick a couple of examples). Also it's an enjoyable read, interspersing personal anecdote with data analysis.
  
  As in Expecting Better, Cribsheet discusses one topic at a time, summarizing the available research and suggesting some factors to consider in personal decision making. It isn't about telling you what you should do, more of a guide to how to go about making your decisions. Although it does generally explain things like percentiles, study design, etc, people with at least a little background and interest in statistics/research methods may enjoy it more, but I don't think it ever gets too technical. Discussions about pregnancy and parenting are far too commonly dominated by conflicting assertions backed up with an unholy amalgam of anecdotes, judgement, pseudoscience, and cherry picking. A book like this, which tells the reader what we actually know (and what we actually don't) hopefully helps parents to feel confident making informed decisions based on what's right for their family.

• Reading this book made me want to weep. Not because it was sad but because finally I could read something that really touched my soul. I am a newbie at running. I have only until quite recently taken up running as one of my more favorite activities. Running the miles helped to give me perspective. Much needed perspective from my failed relationship with the love of my life, from close friends that I have lost because of that failed relationship, then having to feel that I have lost my mind and myself along the way, and dealing with other not so palatable people in my life. It seemed like the only time that I could be free was when I ran. So you have to forgive me when I say that reading about how running brings out the best in humanity and how we connect when we go back to our true selves and truly be kind and compassionate, really really spoke to me. Somehow I always knew that this is the truth and that to read the words saying so made me profoundly happy. Aside from the humanity aspects, the book is beautifully written with good grace, wisdom and humor, not to mention the amount of research and thought that have been poured into this book. Thank you for writing this. I need to reread it again.
• Great story. I am not a runner but do train for other outdoor activities. I now have a completely different understanding of ultra marathon runners and what it takes to love what you do, to be great at it. There are people out there who truly love what they do while driving their bodies to complete exhaustion to the point of it being almost dangerous to their health. I had no idea what to expect going into this book other than someone telling me "I should read it". It's not a hard read and I really wanted to know what happened next with each character in the book. It moves along nicely and I am impressed with the author's ability to keep you interested. It's not about finishing or beating your best time. It's about loving what you do, while you're doing it.
• To be honest I never thought that I would ever believe that I could read a book around the topic of running and enjoy it, but this has turned into one of my all time favorite books and changed the way I think about running.
  Distance running is the fountain of youth (if done correctly), and this book both inspires you to run and gives you tips on how to run without hurting your body.
• I am not a runner. I have never been a runner and doubt I ever will be. But if, at 72 years old, I ever decide to become one, it will be because I read this book. This book is fascinating with its descriptions of the running tribes of Mexico, the quirky people the author meets along his journey to better understand ultra running, the discussions of how “better” running equipment hurts runners, and the description of the exciting race that is the conclusion of the book. I didn’t expect to really like the book, but ended up loving it. I have already recommended it to my book club.
• I am not a runner but that will be changing soon. I could not put this book down once I started. At the age of 60, I am going through a renaissance of sorts. As an avid cyclist in the mid 80’s I would experience a surreal sense of bliss on long training rides and I long for that again. Briefly I dabbled in running then too and had the same experience. Fast forward 30 years and with a renewed interest in optimal health as I age, recent weight loss and lifestyle change is stirring that hunger again for feeling connected. While I will never be an ultra marathon athlete , I will aspire to apply similar discipline along with hard work and inspiration to find joy in my athletic quest as in my daily life. Highly recommend, great storytelling that will interest runner and non runner alike.
• I have never in my life been interested in being a runner. I struggled with the mile in school, and assumed that any more than that was impossible for me to achieve. I only read this book because my boyfriend and his family all enjoy running and they suggested it as a book that might pique my interest-- they were totally right. After starting this book I started to run regularly and I even got into the habit of reading a chapter right before I hit the trails each day. It really does a great job of filling you with the feeling that humans are meant to run, and that running fills you with a joy that you cannot find elsewhere. I am sad that it is over and make a point to recommend it to anyone I know who might be slightly curious about running, so if you're here, I recommend it to you!
• Well written, insightful and appealing story that looks inside the human legacy of endurance training and physical achievement. Our ancestry developed and cherished survival skills that we have somehow morphed into a fringe culture and idiosyncratic sport ultrarunning as an X-sport. Better to enhance our physical gifts and reach for the extreme than to reduce our biological skill-set to decrepitude under the influence of reality TV or social media... even if it sounds remote and difficult.

• This is the Braudel version of a coffee table book. It is attractive, large, with lots of visuals, photos, paitings, and short articles about the genius of northern Italy. If you are looking for Braudel's academic work, look elsewhere. But it looks great on my coffee table.

• Although I've been a consumer of whole life insurance for some time, I've always had some doubts on how valuable a role it plays in my overall financial strategy. After reading Busting the Life Insurance Lies, my doubts have been extinguished, and I know I'm on the right path to wealth and prosperity. The concepts are explained in an easily understandable approach, and I appreciated the inclusion of the "Pro-whole-life" lies to balance the topic. For those looking for the truth about Life Insurance this is the book to read; you'll be glad you did.
• As with all Kim Butler's books, I wish I had read these sooner in my financial life. This book certainly cleared up many of the misconceptions I had about life insurance. If you are in your early twenties to late thirties, you need to understand these principles now so you can reach your financial goals sooner than people like me who waited until their late sixties to get started. It will cost you less in fewer years to get where I am now at a greater cost. If you are older than 60 and have no savings, start now or plan to die with your boots on. What greater legacy can you leave for your children and grand children than a whole life policy on them from a mutual life company they can use to fund college or whatever life may throw at them? You need this book! Read it and follow the principles taught in its pages.

• The title implies that life insurance is a scam and you'll learn all the dirty little secrets of the life insurance industry. On the contrary, it becomes quickly apparent that the book is one long sales pitch for whole life insurance, the kind that life insurance agents often sell as an "investment" without actually calling it an "investment."
  
  If you want life insurance go see the person who sold you your home and/or auto insurance and ask for options.

  What do “ordinary people” know about insurance? Whatever a family member, friend, or insurance broker tells you. You don’t know all the options open to you if you do not know the questions to ask. Insurance brokers are not devious and sneaky, they have certain things they know sell well and make the most money for them, and that is what they will tell you about. A recent experience with a broker revealed this to me. I asked him about whole-life and he immediately shifted to a different venue. I went back and asked questions about whole life as a vehicle for cash flow. He was surprised! I was able to ask the right questions about insurance because I had read this book which is straight - forward plain talk about insurance and got the information I was seeking. A good read.

On a cool morning in the winter of 2011, a logger named Dennis Cronin was walking through a stand of old-growth forest near Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island. His job was to survey the land and flag the boundaries for clear-cutting. As he made his way through the forest, Cronin came across a massive Douglas fir the height of a twenty-storey building. When the fallers arrived, every wiry cedar, every droopy-topped hemlock, every great fir was cut down and hauled away ― all except one. The solitary tree stood quietly in the clear cut until activist and photographer T. J. Watt stumbled upon the Douglas fir while searching for big trees for the Ancient Forest Alliance, an environmental organization fighting to protect British Columbia's dwindling old-growth forests. The single Douglas fir exemplified their cause the grandeur of these trees juxtaposed with their plight. They gave it a name Big Lonely Doug. The tree would also eventually, and controversially, be turned into the poster child of the Tall Tree Capital of Canada, attracting thousands of tourists every year and garnering the attention of artists, businesses, and organizations who saw new values encased within its bark.

• What a fun little gadget. It’s so cool. I really wish it had a keychain feature or a way to add a keychain because I would carry it all the time.
  
  Please make more of these Ghostbusters gadgets. Mattel made such a poor business decision to completely botch the launch of Ghostbusters products that I’m glad to see a company take good steps to sell a cheap prop replica that everyone can buy. Not some “limited edition” product that gets gobbled up by resellers and sold on eBay. Your company and Spirit Halloween got it figured out.
• Awesome collectible. Verry detailed. Hope they make more ghostbuster stuff and would love a 1 to 1 replica
• Totally misleading! Not only did I have to wait almost two months for this quarter machine piece of crap but it’s exactly that. A tiny cheaply made piece of crap. Do not recommend to anyone unless ur looking for a small Christmas tree ornament.

• The "Miniature" was added to the description after the pre-order was placed. It's much smaller than what I was expecting for the price and from the original description. Awkward size that is too small even for a toddler or it's too big to be played with action action figure. Very disappointed.
