Is life insurance a bad investment? Don’t I lose all my cash value when I die? Shouldn’t I just make a bundle and invest it instead? What about my spouse or my kids—do they need life insurance? Can I borrow money from (or is it against?) a life insurance policy? My insurance advisor told me one thing about insurance, but my financial planner gave me different advice, and an expert on TV said something else entirely. What do I do now? Help!

Every day, people like you and me run into questions like these—and no good answers. The truth about life insurance is that myths, misunderstandings, and even outright lies cause a lot of uncertainty around what it is, how it works, who needs it and when, and—most importantly—the great benefits it can bring to your life.

This book is here to clear up all that confusion. With combined experience of over fifty years in the life insurance industry, Kim Butler and Jack Burns know what’s true and what isn’t. They’ve seen what works and what fails. They’ve lived through every success and failure the industry can throw at them. And they’re fed up with seeing smart, well-meaning people fall for costly half-truths and mix-ups because they just can’t find the right information.

Busting The Life Insurance Lies takes the 38 biggest, loudest myths around life insurance and breaks them wide open. Whether you’re wondering if life insurance is right for you, wanting to understand how it can help you while you’re still alive, or even an insurance advisor yourself, this book will guide you to the answers you need to make the clearest, most informed decision—one you’ll feel good about for the rest of your life.

"Great information, although the author is clearly pushing the Whole Life route as the way to go. It's good information overall. But for me, Whole Life is just ONE option as it always depends on a client's specific goals and objective. This book is a good road map to help some people navigate the financial noise that's out there from the Talking heads that push a One Size Fits all strategy for all people."

  • Although I've been a consumer of whole life insurance for some time, I've always had some doubts on how valuable a role it plays in my overall financial strategy. After reading Busting the Life Insurance Lies, my doubts have been extinguished, and I know I'm on the right path to wealth and prosperity. The concepts are explained in an easily understandable approach, and I appreciated the inclusion of the "Pro-whole-life" lies to balance the topic. For those looking for the truth about Life Insurance this is the book to read; you'll be glad you did.
  • As with all Kim Butler's books, I wish I had read these sooner in my financial life. This book certainly cleared up many of the misconceptions I had about life insurance. If you are in your early twenties to late thirties, you need to understand these principles now so you can reach your financial goals sooner than people like me who waited until their late sixties to get started. It will cost you less in fewer years to get where I am now at a greater cost. If you are older than 60 and have no savings, start now or plan to die with your boots on. What greater legacy can you leave for your children and grand children than a whole life policy on them from a mutual life company they can use to fund college or whatever life may throw at them? You need this book! Read it and follow the principles taught in its pages.
  • Great information, although the author is clearly pushing the Whole Life route as the way to go. It's good information overall. But for me, Whole Life is just ONE option as it always depends on a client's specific goals and objective. This book is a good road map to help some people navigate the financial noise that's out there from the Talking heads that push a One Size Fits all strategy for all people.
  • The title implies that life insurance is a scam and you'll learn all the dirty little secrets of the life insurance industry. On the contrary, it becomes quickly apparent that the book is one long sales pitch for whole life insurance, the kind that life insurance agents often sell as an "investment" without actually calling it an "investment."

If you want life insurance go see the person who sold you your home and/or auto insurance and ask for options.
  • Busting insurance lies

What do “ordinary people” know about insurance? Whatever a family member, friend, or insurance broker tells you. You don’t know all the options open to you if you do not know the questions to ask. Insurance brokers are not devious and sneaky, they have certain things they know sell well and make the most money for them, and that is what they will tell you about. A recent experience with a broker revealed this to me. I asked him about whole-life and he immediately shifted to a different venue. I went back and asked questions about whole life as a vehicle for cash flow. He was surprised! I was able to ask the right questions about insurance because I had read this book which is straight - forward plain talk about insurance and got the information I was seeking. A good read.
  • Thank you for all this great information and Busting the Life
Insurance...Whole Life Policy...Lies. I cannot wait to share with my clients.
  • This book is great for those who are new to using life insurance to build wealth as well as seasoned veterans. You'll learn the truth about life insurance...what it is and what it is not.
  • The first lie we should address is Everyone wants to pick up a book about life insurance right? Well, maybe not, but if you are one of us who doesn't want to spend time absorbing crazy financial needs you didn't know you had, boring charts and numbers, and learning a brand new vocabulary, than this is the book for you! Using a typical family, who ask the same questions we all have, discussing their concerns in ways we can all understand and identify with, Kim and Jack artfully lay out the case for considering properly designed whole life. The lies they take on are surprising, because they are commonly thought of as absolute fact! Yet they prove, beyond the shadow of doubt that what we think we know, just isn't so. Thank you for introducing me to the road less travelled, and a new path forward.
