The complete text of Laudato Si’, the landmark encyclical letter from Pope Francis that, as Time magazine reported, “rocked the international community”

In the Encyclical on Climate Change and Inequality, the beloved Pope exhorts the world to combat environmental degradation and its impact on the poor. In a stirring, clarion call that is not merely aimed at Catholic readers but rather at a wide, lay audience, the Pope cites the overwhelming scientific evidence of climate change, and does not hesitate to detail how it is the result of a historic level of unequal distribution of wealth.

It is, in short, as the New York Times labeled it, “An urgent call to action . . . intended to persuade followers around the world to change their behavior, in hopes of protecting a fragile planet.”

With an insightful and informative introduction by Harvard professor Naomi Oreskes, famed for her bestselling Merchants of Doubt How a Handful of Scientists Obscured the Truth on Issues from Tobacco Smoke to Global Warming.

"This short book is a powerhouse argument about the moral, ethical and religious obligation to act on climate change -- straight from the Pope, with an introduction by the smart and articulate science historian Naomi Oreskes. Whether or not you are Catholic, or even religious, his words will shape how you think about why climate change matters, how the most vulnerable will be hit hardest, and what can be done about it. A Must Read."

Encyclical on Climate Change and Inequality On Care for Our Common Home Pope Francis Naomi Oreskes 0884612645152 Books Reviews

  • This short book is a powerhouse argument about the moral, ethical and religious obligation to act on climate change -- straight from the Pope, with an introduction by the smart and articulate science historian Naomi Oreskes. Whether or not you are Catholic, or even religious, his words will shape how you think about why climate change matters, how the most vulnerable will be hit hardest, and what can be done about it. A Must Read.
  • I can actually point to pages of Laudato Si where the Pope tells us specifically what to do in our daily lives to help the planet. And, because I am already doing a few of those things, I am quite happy with this book. I must say I disagree with many people who said the Pope did not mention that global warming had already been proven. I think the fact that he wrote so much about battling climate change already confirms something to the effect. Of course, I'd love it if he would just come out and say it, and that's the only quarrel I have with the book.
  • This is a must have for every Catholic who hears so many different opinions on the climate change, is it real, what is our role as believing Catholics. Read the real document for yourself and you will see it is not confusing at all.
  • I read this book as a part of a circle of friends in a book club. Once I overcame my initial prejudice of the authour and the thinly veiled attempt at selling Religion/Catholicism as the ultimate answer to our "green prayers" I found the book to be very enlightening. Pope Francis has an excellent grasp of the challenges facing us, as well as an understanding of the forces behind these challenges while providing some hope for how to best resolve some of the issues and concerns he raises. His insights into the continuous sacrifices that the poor/working class are making and how it ultimately affects humanity shows a keen understanding of how we're all interconnected as well as shows his honest empathy for those less fortunate.
  • Nice to have the entire encyclical in one place.
  • This is a courageous, accessible, effort to make the world not only intellectually understand, but feel how real and serious the changes happening in our climate are, Pope Francis' beautiful and smart encyclical is written with the hope of waking up Catholics and everyone else to our joint responsibility of taking immediate action to save our planet for future generations.
  • Required reading - for those on the Left, the Right and that vast swath in between that refuse to think for themselves.
  • We should send a copy to Mr. President!
