Premium Value Slimline Bible Large Print NLT Crown LeatherLike Onyx Tyndale 9781496413871 Books Reviews

  • I really like the feel and look of this book! The crown on the cover is a nice touch. The size of the book is great. It's slim so fits nice for travel. Words are a good size for me but if you have trouble seeing get the giant print. But it's missing a few things. OK down to the nitty-gritty.

    Pros

Feel of the book is great
    Large text
    Foot notes
    Coloured maps
    Life application life topics
One year bible plan with daily readings
    Story finder
    Ribbon marker
    Opens flat

    Cons
    No dictionary
    No Concordance
    No red lettering
    No column reference
    Gold edges
  • The print is so tiny. Other than that, it's a nice version of the Bible. I've added a photo for comparison of size.
  • I like the large life application section. It also has a reading plan that may or may not come in handy. The cover is nice. What I don't like is that there is really no space to write notes. I also wish they had started books on a separate page rather than immediately following the previous one mid page. The margins are 1/4" and the general layout is what you would find in a bible from the dollar store. The size of print is fine for me but it is not really large print. Also, the couple pages of advertising at the end is a bit tacky. For what I was wanting, I would have passed on this one if I had seen the inside.
  • This is not a review of the Holy Bible nor of this translation, as the former is of course a 5 star. This is a complaint that the texts wraps way too close to the binding at the center, and there's not enough spacing there. Everytime the words on the left page drifts to the right end, you have peel the book back to read it, and same for the right side but reversed. This sucks when reading - 1 star.
  • I am extremely pleased with this Bible! I ordered it as a second Bible to bring along to Church and to Lifegroups as my primary study Bible is QUITE large and not conducive to a desk-less environment.
This Bible size is perfect-- fits right in my purse which is exactly what I wanted! It also lays quite flat, even the first few times you open it and even just a few pages in. This was a super pleasant surprise!
The font size is excellent-- easy to read. *Note, there is not much (if any) room to add your own notes within the pages. There are two pages in the front of the Bible marked "notes" but they almost feel redundant. If you want to take notes, you are better off having a separate notebook or getting a journaling Bible.
I REALLY love the Life Application section! As a relatively new believer it is incredibly handy to have that list of applicable scripture for nearly any situation!
I also really enjoy the maps in the back of the Bible. As someone who is terrible at geography, it's nice to have a clear visual of the areas discussed in the Bible story.
The one thing I don't love is the pages themselves-- they seem even thinner than the average Bible. However, I'm sure this was necessary in order to keep it a manageable size, so it's not something I would deduct a star for or even really criticize that much. It would be a concern for anyone highlighting/writing on the pages, though. I cannot confirm but I imagine there would be a lot of bleed-through or ghosting.
All in all, very happy with this purchase and I would (and will!) absolutely recommend it to others.

  • I brought this Bible because I wanted the NLT version and I wanted a large print text. Well, I did get the NLT version but that was it. The Bible I received with the crown cover is actually upside down from the contents of the Bible and the print is no where near large print. The font of this Bible is standard. I decided to keep the Bible even though I'm disappointed with the product because I'm ready to start digging into God's word like yesterday. I don't know what happened here, maybe it's just a fluke, but be warned.
  • I grew up using a KJV Bible with the cheap bonded leather and that lasted me a good 20+ years until the binding started falling apart. At that time I replaced it with a NIV Life Application Bible, which is a combo of a NIV Bible that I use in Bible Study, along with a life lessons/applications. I rarely open the Life Application Bible and the reason is because it is a hardback book. I enjoy reading and what I love about this paperback version of the Bible is that it is paperback, so I can sit in my awkward position and comfortably contort this paperback book to my needs. I enjoy reading my Bible and hope I never lose that passion, but having a version that I can hold like a book means that I have a version (and translation) that I may read like a book.

I'm not going to mark the Holy Bible anything less than 5-stars unless it were a poor translation but I do wish that this, or a similar styled Bible, contained red-letter. On a plus side, I found out today that using a Pilot G-2 pen to underline will not fully leak into the other side of the page. I haven't used a highlighter yet but think I'll be okay since the G-2 didn't leak through. Yes, the font is small and fine but I have good eyesight so it's not an issue for me but can see how it may be an issue for others. I hope this review/rant helps you to choose, or not choose, the right Bible for you.
