- Another great Virgil Jones read. Spoiler alert.
This one starts with the end of the story. Not the beginning. An end where Jonesy and Murt have to revert to their military training. Cool, Raz and sniper Ross are also at the end. Bell will play an important part as will Sandy.
The town of Freedom doesn't have very many people living there. One of them is Pap. Pap is a middle man for a team in Gary, Indiana who run guns. He owns a salvage business and that's where the guns are picked up.
Angel Redbow is a Native American who finally escaped the casino on the rez only to fall in with Pap. A Pap who beats her and uses her for sex. He's one mean man. A man who forces her to leave his house after he sees her looking at his open safe. The safe has three million dollars in it and her seeing it sealed her fate.
Billy Hawk works for Pap as well and Pap order him to befriend Angel, a woman he knows as they both work for Pap. Once he takes her out of Freedom Pap orders him to get rid of her. Pap had given her an envelope with five hundred dollars in it and Pap tells Billy the money is his.
Billy likes Angel and Angel isn't a fool. She knows Billy has been ordered to kill her but Billy doesn't. The two of them become a team. A team who want that three million.
Virgil and Sandy are doing great. They finally sold the land and Said got his pumps working. The money is flowing into their accounts. Both kids are doing great and Huma lives with them. Huma is great with the kids and a good cook. She and Delroy, who's part owner of Jonesy's bar, are an item. The bar is the best place to eat in Indiana and business is good.
The Governor has become more than a friend and he is at Virgil and Sandy's house quite a bit. That has changed in the last month and they have hardly seen him. Virgil, being Virgil, is wondering what changed and why.
Virgil gets a visit from his dead Father. His Father, in his usual round about way where he talks but doesn't really tell Virgil anything, tells him to keep Cool.
The Governor finally pays a visit and speaks with Sandy. Virgil comes home to find the Governor and Sandy out by the pond. What they are talking about he doesn't know but will find out. Once the Governor leaves Sandy tells him that the Governor wants her to be his Lt. Governor because the current Lt. Governor is dying and has already gone home to Freedom, Indiana to die. Virgil has no idea what a dangerous situation is about to happen.
So begins one damned fine read.
This one has Virgil, Sandy, Murt, Becky, Mac the Governor, Pap, Angel, Billy, Cool, Raz, Bell, Ross the sniper, a raid on a warehouse that is empty, Ron Miles who is shot and left for dead, the agent who shot him, the agents wife who was held hostage so the agent would shoot Miles, a wife who was killed, the agent who then killed himself, Native Americans who are contacted by Billy Hawk about a shipment of guns, a Billy and Angel who kill Pap and then crush the car the put him in, the salvage yard that Pap owned where the guns are delivered, the Governor who attends the death of the Lt. Governor a woman he had loads of respect for, her husband who is falling apart, Ross who is the only guard left with the Governor, the guns that make it to the salvage yard, the crew from Gary who are on the way to pick them up, Native Americans from the rez who are also on the way to pick them up, a kidnaped Governor, a Ross who is knocked out and ends up in the same place as the Governor, Virgil, Murt, Cool and Rez who are on the way to rescue the Governor and one hell of a mess that Virgil and his people will do their best to survive.

- The Virgil Jones series is probably my favorite series. They get you hooked in the story, and you finish it in no time. Just wish they would come sooner.
- I have read all of the Virgil Jones series. This is the best yet!!!!! The first chapter was the best yet!!!! Thomas Scott has done a wonderful job of developing Virgil Jones and all the "regulars" of his series. Although they do not have to be read in order, I would recommend that to any new reader of this series.
- Having just finishes reading all six of the Virgil Jones series, cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out. Great reading, fast and very “cannot put them down greatâ€. Five stars is not a high enough rating for me.
- Have read all of the books(6 as of this review) and have enjoyed each one. The character development is wonderful and the story lines leave you wondering what will happen next. Only Virgil’s Daddy knows.
- This is the best book of the series. The writing is tight and the story is non stop from start to finish.
I enjoy reading authors who write about the area where they live. Since I live in Indiana, I can relate to the places where the Virgil series takes place. You will not be disappointed in this series. - A very good read. I love the series
