Unfolding as It Should Keith Canedo Books Reviews
- The author does an excellent job of painting a picture of the lives of the main characters before, during and after World War 2, and also of giving the historical context. He really makes you care about what is going to happen to them next and want to keep reading. This is especially true because even though the characters are fictional, they represent the real-life experiences of so many people. This book is a very useful resource for anyone wanting to understand the history of the Philippines and USA.
- A wonderful journey through generations of a family. Every imaginable emotion of the family dynamic is opened and examined. Love is not an easy feeling to manage; what comes through is the strength of the love that exists within a family. This story unfolds ... as it should.
- I really enjoyed reading "Unfolding". Having grown up in Southern California in the '60s in a multi-cultural neighborhood, I feel as if I know the Paruparo family. Though this was a fictional novel, I have to believe there is a bit of truth in it too. My father was a veteran of WWII, which helped me to enjoy the historical aspects of the book.
For his first novel, I thought Mr. Canedo did a wonderful job. I look forward to more from him. - A wonderful family saga from a fresh voice. While the book is rich in Filipino culture, history and folklore, a story involving immigrants is timely and of a fractured family very relatable. I found reading about WWII from such an under represented perspective extremely interesting. The amount of research Mr. Canedo must have put into his novel is impressive. Will definitely be looking forward to future publications from this author.
- I completely enjoyed not just the story about the extended family and its history before during and after World War 2, but was most impressed by the author's story telling. It was just an easy book to keep on reading, as you just wanted to go "one more chapter" before setting it down for the day. A very good read.
